Discover Chemnitz in a whole new light!
With this year’s theme of LICHT.MACHT.PLATZ. (LIGHT.MAKES.SPACE.), Baukultur für Chemnitz e. V. is once again transforming the city into a glowing work of art. International light artists will be adorning buildings and public spaces with impressive projections and colourful illuminations.
“Light our Vision” (LOV for short) shows what Chemnitz could look like in the future – vibrant, bold and full of possibilities. In keeping with the Capital of Culture theme of “C the Unseen”, and guided by the team’s visions of future urban development, we want to visualise unseen potential, make the overlooked visible and draw attention to the seemingly forgotten. You can expect new, surprising depictions of Chemnitz as it could be in the future. Because nothing has to stay as it is. Especially not in Chemnitz.
Lotte Claudia Fischer, Chair of the Baukultur für Chemnitz e.V. association:
“Our vision of a Chemnitz in 20 years’ time is a city with a new sheen. The area behind the ’Parteifalte’ office complex will become the new centrepiece, Marienplatz (Mary’s Square) the new cultural quarter, a lively city centre, full of street cafés, colourful shops and cuisine from all over the world – attracting thousands of enthusiastic visitors of all kinds.
With the Festival of Light Art, we want to show what could be possible in a very special, unique way. We want to cast the spotlight on a version of Chemnitz that will do our city justice until our vision becomes a reality. The Bilbao Effect has shown what ingenious architecture is capable of. It can bring things together and change perceptions and themes. We want the same for our city.”
